Our fishing auctions are headed up by specialist Andy Langdale. He is always happy to advise on fishing tackle and gear, vintage and modern, for sale at auction, from single items to much-loved collections, built up over years.
Andy brings his love of fishing to the job of cataloguing 1818 Auctioneers regular specialist vintage and collectable fishing tackle and memorabilia sales.
Taught by his father and uncles, poachers turned part time gamekeepers, Andy began by catching brown trout in the small Cumbrian becks near home. A job with the Royal Navy led to sea fishing and Andy says he was sure to pack his fishing rods first when he was on board HMS Ark Royal.
As well as providing free, pre-sale valuations on single items to large collections, Andy ensures items are expertly catalogued and photographed. Our live, online auctions, and targeted marketing ensures collectors and buyers from around the world are looking at our sales. Recent highlights include a single owner collection of course fishing equipment which sold well and good prices were achieved for Hardy tackle and fishing rods.
In our sales you’ll see a wide range of coarse, sea and game fishing rods and poles and second hand fly rods. Expect to see vintage and modern names like Allcocks, Abu, Dacker, Daiwa, Hardy, Millward, Mitchell, Shakespeare and Shimano. As well as a lots of fishing accessories from fishing scales, landing and keep nets to lures, hooks, fishing flies and fly-tying equipment. There’s also related paraphernalia including rod carriers, creels, tackle boxes and fishing related books and catalogues.
Andy can advise on how best to tackle whole collections for sale at auction and provide estimates on special items. He also understands the emotion of dealing with the sale of a loved one’s collection amassed over time.
