Purpose

At 1818 Auctioneers, we are committed to providing a professional, respectful, and welcoming environment for clients, visitors, consignors, bidders—and for all our staff, including valuers of any age or gender. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations we hold for customer behaviour to ensure safety, dignity, and respect within our premises.

Expectations for Customer Behaviour

a) Respect and Courtesy

Treat all 1818 auctioneers’ staff with courtesy and respect at all times. Disrespectful or dismissive behaviour — including comments or attitudes towards staff based on age, gender, experience level or any personal characteristic — will not be tolerated. Our valuers are qualified professionals or are in training; please respect their expertise.

b) No Aggression or Harassment

Aggressive behaviour — whether verbal, physical, or implied — is strictly prohibited. This includes raised voices, intimidation, threats, or hostile language. Customers must not pressure or harass valuers to change their professional opinions, valuations, or advice. Personal, suggestive, or inappropriate remarks or questions are not permitted.

c) Professional Interactions Only

Communication with staff should remain professional and business-appropriate. Disagreements or questions must be expressed calmly and respectfully. If you disagree with an assessment, you are welcome to request clarification or second opinion from a senior member of staff.

d) Acceptance of Professional Advice

1818 Auctioneers’ valuers’ judgments and advice are based on experience, training, and industry standards. If you believe an assessment to be in error, customers may seek explanations or a second opinion — but must not challenge staff in a hostile or demeaning way.

e) Compliance with Instructions and Policies

Customers must adhere to all instructions from staff concerning safety, handling, viewing, auctions, and valuations. Failure to comply may result in restricted access or removal from the premises.

Consequences of Violations

Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in:

A verbal or written warning;
Refusal of services;
Removal or ejection from the premises;
Suspension or revocation of bidding/valuation privileges;
Permanently banning from future auctions or valuations;
Referral to law enforcement for serious incidents as required.

Commitment to a Safe and Respectful Workplace

1818 Auctioneers are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional work environment for all staff. By observing this Code of Conduct, you help us ensure a high-quality experience for all clients — and a respectful and secure place for our team to work.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and respect.

We appreciate your business — and your courtesy.
