Stuart Devlin ‘Eggstravaganza’ – once again we are thrilled to have Stuart Devlin surprise Easter eggs at auction.

Stuart Devlin ranks as one of the great contemporary silver and goldsmiths and we are selling twelve of his surprise Easter eggs in our upcoming April two-day auction. Silver gilt and limited edition, they are much sought-after collector’s items.

Our vendor is a private customer based in France and we sold nine Stuart Devlin surprise Easter eggs from her collection last year. Since then, the eggs have increased in value with the 12 new lots carrying an estimate of £300-£350 each (excepting the 1977 robin, which has come loose from its nest and is estimated at £200-£250). Many of the twelve also come with their original receipt.

The designs date from 1970 through to 1981 and each is a numbered, limited edition release. Each egg also conceals a trembling study inside. The creatures and characters tucked away inside the stunning exterior eggs include a fish, a frog, a turtle, a mouse, two x jack in the box, a robin, a humming bird, a rabbit, a hippo, butterflies and a kangaroo.
