We've Done It!!
South Lakeland District Council today wholeheartedly approved the relocation of Kendal's auction complex and business to land at Crooklands immediately adjacent to Jct.36 of the M6 motorway and main A65/A590 road networks.
Trevor Wilson, director of L&K Group Plc who own and operate the auction at Kendal, speaking after the planning meeting stated "I am absolutely delighted that today we have seen South Lakeland District Council unanimously support both the need to move the existing market out of the centre of Kendal to a more appropriate rural site and the need in Kendal for local, affordable homes for young families. Today sees the start of an exciting development for South Lakeland which will deliver a modern livestock marketing centre and agricultural business park for our farmers and customers.
John Asplin, Managing Director of Time & Tide speaking afterwards declared "I am delighted for both the L&K Group directors and shareholders. It has been a long and arduous journey for them to arrive at this point and it has often been overlooked but their relocation comes from necessity. They have made a major commitment to their business. This makes the statement that Farming and Agriculture is valued in Cumbria and 'The Agri-Quarter' at J36 can be a flagship for the county. Coupled with the relocation Time & Tide also had approved the redevelopment of the existing Kendal auction mart for 97 homes of which 47 are to be affordable.
Work is due to start in the spring with completion being early 2012.
Congratulations go to all the staff and directors who have worked so hard on this application on behalf of its customers, staff and shareholders.

Our parent company, L & K Group Plc, has announced it's plans which will see the relocation of our Kendal Auction Complex to land at Moss End Farm, just off the motorway at J36.
We are all very excited about this news which could see the new mart and several ancillary business units being completed by early 2012. The existing site at Appleby & Sandylands Road will be sold to the same developer for housing, a mix of local and affordable family homes and work will only start on the site once the new auction and units have been completed.
We are pleased that our planning application has now been submitted for the new auction at Moss End Farm. The application will go before the planning committee in the new year (hopefully in January 2011) and all comments to SLDC as part of the planning process will be welcomed. Use the link below to view the application in full and to comment. It is really important that our customers show their support, it is so easy to comment via the SLDC website, so please support our application
