There’s a wide range of auctions taking place throughout the year at 1818 Auctioneers and plenty of ways to buy – in the room or via absentee, telephone and online bidding.

General Auctions (Every* Monday, 10am start)

Offering something for every buyer, our regular weekly auctions are fun, affordable and a great place to try your hand at bidding if you are new to the sale room experience.

An eclectic mix of antiques, vintage, retro and collectable items, the sales are the perfect place to find one-of-a-kind furniture, art and home accessories.

Catalogues are available from the sale room and online, and buyers are welcome to view on Friday's from 2-4, Saturday 10-1 sale days from 8.30am. And you can of course bid on line at ALL our auctions

Specialist, Catalogued auctions (Monthly -10am start)

Our specialist auctions are held every month and are packed with real finds. Buyers of silver and jewellery, pictures, coins and medals, wines and spirits, toys and models, fine arts, vintage clothing and textiles, ceramics and glassware, objets d’art, and antique and vintage furniture will find sections with strong showings in every sale.

Please do also look out for our musical sections and stand-alone specialist sales featuring instruments, collectable vinyl, and rock and pop memorabilia. Kev Kendal’s personal musical connections often lead to some great lots heading our way – including one of Rory Gallagher’s guitars, which sold for £25,000 - he is also known for bursting into song mid-auction!

A quick guide to buying at 1818 Auctioneers

Registration for, viewing and attending our auctions

We use bidding cards with individual bidding numbers printed on them to identify our buyers. If you are planning on bidding please head to reception where we will help you to register with us – once you have your bidding card and number it is yours to keep. We ask for your name, address and proof of identity as part of the registration process.

Viewings are available prior to each sale - Every Friday from 2-4 and Saturday morning from 10-1. Why not visit our on site Cafe Ambio for a delicious array of food and drink. You can also preview lots by viewing our online catalogues, they offer a description, images and an estimated sale price. Conidtion reports can also be supplied by email if required.

Our auction room is a friendly and comfortable place, with lots of seats or standing areas available, a large, free car park and an inviting café just across the corridor. You can follow the auction via our printed catalogues, which can be purchased from reception, and via the large screen tv which displays the lot number and a picture of the item about to go under the hammer.

If it is your first time bidding and buying at auction, please let us know as we are happy to offer any further help and advice you might need.

 Telephone, absentee and online bidding

If you’re unable to attend the sale there are a number of ways you can still bid.

Absentee bids (commonly known as commission, or on the book, bids) can be taken ahead of sales. Again, there’s a quick form to complete giving your highest bid price on as many specific lots as you wish to bid for. We will then act as your representative and try to secure the item at the lowest possible price. 

Online bidding is now available for all our auctions via The Saleroom, There is a 3% surcharge for this service, please follow their registration and bidding instructions. This service means you can join the sale live from anywhere you wish!

We can book a telephone bid with you in advance of the sale. At busier times this service is sometimes restricted to items with a higher value. There’s a quick form to complete with your details and contact number and one of the team will call you just ahead of the lot coming up for sale. They’ll then talk you through the bids and check at each one whether you wish to bid again – until you are successful or wish to stop bidding.

Please remember there is a buyers premium of 20% including VAT to add to the hammer price.
